Prospective Volunteers

GENERAL APPLICATIONS FOR MULBERRY LITERARY ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED*

Due to the large volume of applications we have received, Mulberry Literary is no longer accepting applications for new volunteer editors—submissions closed early on December 25th via our Instagram and prospective applicants will receive our final decision within the next few weeks.

Although we are not currently accepting volunteers, we encourage those interested in joining our team to read the position descriptions below. If you feel like you’re a good fit for us, please email your resume, portfolio, and Discord username to mulberryliterary@gmail.com, and we will let you know when positions next become available.

Positions

Art Editor: art editors are required to meet once a week every Sunday over Discord video chat during open submission periods to discuss submissions Mulberry has received. There are roughly 10-15 art submissions that must be read each week during an open submission period. Mulberry receives a vast array of art including visual, auditory, movement, and film. Art editors must have previous experience with some form of non-text-based art.

Fiction Editor: fiction editors are required to meet once a week every Sunday over Discord video chat during open submission periods to discuss submissions Mulberry has received. There are roughly 15-25 fiction submissions that must be read each week during an open submission period. Fiction editors are required to have some sort of experience with copyediting (whether that be with another magazine/journal or with friends/family/school). All prose editors are expected to copyedit 1-2 pieces per issue. Fiction editors must have previous experience writing nonfiction and/or fiction.

Nonfiction Editor: nonfiction editors are required to meet once a week every Sunday over Discord video chat during open submission periods to discuss submissions Mulberry has received. There are roughly 5-10 nonfiction submissions that must be read each week during an open submission period. Nonfiction editors are required to have some sort of experience with copyediting (whether that be with another magazine/journal or with friends/family/school). All prose editors are expected to copyedit 1-2 pieces per issue. Nonfiction editors must have previous experience writing nonfiction and/or fiction.

Poetry Editor: poetry editors are required to meet once a week every Sunday over Discord video chat during open submission periods to discuss submissions Mulberry has received. There are roughly 15-20 poetry submissions that must be read each week during an open submission period. Poetry editors must have previous experience writing poetry and/or verse.

Social Media: social media curators will be assigned pieces from previous issues to make excerpt posts of. Social media curators are required to meet once an issue over Discord video chat to discuss social media tactics and ideas. Social media curators are required to make roughly 4-7 social media images. They must have prior experience with photoshop or Canva.
